The demand to provide NSSPPA members with a program to cover the fundamentals of producing and processing sweet sorghum syrup led to the development of the "Sorghum School" concept presented at the 2019 and 2020 Annual Meeting. Now members have an opportunity to visit sorghum veterans to learn even more .
Even though the response from the questionnaire provided sufficient support for a “Sorghum School”, the preventative measures put in place to slow and hopefully stop the spread of the COVID19 virus have curtailed our plans.
Even so, the seven members listed have offered to hold processing classes on their farms this fall if the spread of this virus has declined. Any classes will be on the syrup maker’s schedule and attendees will abide by preventative guideline in place at the time.
Those who are interested in attending a class will have to contact one of the individual syrup makers to make the necessary arrangements.
The Association views this as a trial and will review input from these classes to plan further development.
